Academic

Throughout my academic career, I wrote extensive academic research papers as well as in different genres.  My MA degree papers were based on these two seminar papers.

ENG 700: Introduction to Research Methods in English

In this class, we were to write a research paper based on any research question of our choosing related to our field of study (in my case, technical communication), with a specific academic journal in mind.  We wrote the papers section by section throughout the semester, revising  the sections into one whole paper at the end of the class and presenting it in a mock conference presentation for which we had to create a handout and a PowerPoint slide poster.

As a part of my research, I compiled an IRB (Institutional Review Board) proposal and surveyed eleven technical communication professionals. The focus of my paper, A Study of the Issues in Technical Writing E-Collaboration and Methods to Enhance Collaborative Cooperation with a Focus on Global Collaboration, is an analysis of current issues in international technical writing e-collaboration, how these issues are being addressed, and what further research has yet to be done.

ENG 720: Seminar: Composition Theory

For this class, we were to write a 12-15 page seminar paper on a topic of our choosing related to the composition studies theories we had covered throughout the semester. In my particular paper, Teaching Cultural Awareness in a Composition Classroom through Global Collaborative Projects, I proposed a collaborative writing project in which students in a freshman composition classroom would work with Chinese students to produce a research paper on cultural issues in order to not only become more aware of other cultures but also become more self-aware and therefore both better writers and citizens.
