Welcome

About Me

My name is Katherine Wertz. I am a technical communicator specializing in computer documentation, web writing, document design, and more.

About My Portfolio

This electronic portfolio contains my technical, creative, and academic writing examples as well as editing and teaching samples. I created the majority of these samples as a part of my MA in Writing: Technical and Professional track as well as my BA in English: Creative Writing program.

Please note that some of these files are in pdf format. Please download a free copy of Adobe Reader, if necessary.

About My Education

After studying Mandarin Chinese in Qingdao, China in Spring 2010, I graduated Summa Cum Laude in May 2011 with a BA in English: Creative Writing with minors in history and Chinese from Missouri State University. In May 2013, I earned my MA in Writing, Technical and Professional Writing track with a 3.98/4.0 g.p.a.

About My Experience

I taught freshman composition at Missouri State University. I also worked as a monitor for the Recent and Relevant section in Technical Communication under Dr. Lyn Gattis, which involved collecting academic article abstracts relevant to technical communication, compiling these abstracts along with those gathered by other monitors, and formatting them.

As a part of my technical communication graduate courses, I wrote user guides, software tutorials, software procedurals, and software quick reference guides. I also designed, handcoded, and wrote content for a website on Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) as well as a portfolio website.

Additionally, I worked for several years at the Missouri State Writing Center as a Writing Consultant and have worked as a writer and editor in multiple  capacities over the years.

Please view my résumé and my Linkedin page for a complete description of my qualifications.
